THE EXAMINED LIFE

By signing up for a free website at the Thinker's Web Project, you agree to the following:

I. You understand this is an agreement between you and The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal and that only the editors and the administrator of the site have any authority to grant you permission(s) for the site, and authorized use and access to it. Any claims or guarentees not made by either the editors or the administrator of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal are not binding and should be disregarded.

II. You agree to use this site for purposes pertaining to philosophy or of interest to philosophers (history, science, literature, poetry, classics, etc.). This is not intended to be a "catch all" home page, and you agree to accept the decision of the editors as to whether you site should be included here.

III. You understand that the site is provided to you by The Examiend Life On-Line Philosophy Journal, and that if, at any time, it is deemed necessary that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal should forgo this service, you understand that your account will be terminated. This termination may occur with or without notice to you.

IV. By signing up for a site, you agree to construct your philosophy page within 14 days or your account will be terminated. If for any reason you cannot have your site up within 14 days, you must contact the admnistrator in writing as to why you cannot have your site up and when you might expect for your site to be up. The administrator will at that time decide whether to grant you this extension.

V. You agree that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal will have access to your files kept on the server, and that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal reserves the right to make your site known to readers of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal either through an index of sites, or any other way that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal might see fit.

VI. You understand that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal does not guarentee the stability or the access to the server. This is provided by an independent company, SolveCom, who may at any time halt this service both to you and to The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal if they see fit. All problems with the server, and other file managment problems must be brought to the attention of the administrator of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal, and not to SolveCom. You give the administrator the right to speak on your behalf to SolveCom if a problem with the service is observed.

VII. You are ultimately responsible for the content on your site, and you should not give your username and password to anyone else. Any content on your site that is found to be illegal will be reported to the authorities, your account will be terminated. Your site may not contain any pornography, hate propoganda, or any material deemed to be inappropriate by the editors or administrator of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal. It may not include .exe files, .cgi files,. .pl files, or any other files that are a pogram by nature. Your site must not contain any information or tools used for hacking or interruption of the internet. Your site must not contain any implied or explicit threats to another nor any institution. You understand that the editors and the administrator have the sole right and responsibility to determine whether your site complies with the above, and that if you site is found in violation of any of the above that it will be terminated immediately without notice.

VIII. You agree that you will not sign up for more than one site without prior authorization from the administrator of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal. If it is found that you have signed up for more than one site without such authorization, then all of your accounts will be terminated

IX. You agree to full and complete information about yourself when signing up for a site. This means that you must give your real name, and your real e-mail address. You understand that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal reserves the right to verify this information at its discretion, and that if it is found not to be correct, then your account will be terminated without notice. You further agree to keep the administrator of The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal aware of any changes to your information.

X. You understand that you are signing up for limited amount of space on the server, and that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal may choose to increase or decrease the size of the account without prior notice.

XI. You understand that this site is not to be used for e-commerce, and you are not to sell things on this site. This site is provided for people to provide free access to sites of philosophical interest, and not for any other purpose real or explicit.

XII. Any attempt to tamper with the site in any fashion will result in the termination of your site. This includes, but is not limited to, placing program files, .cgi, and .pl files, as well as attempting to gain access to the site either by an FTP program or through a network feature. Doing so will disrupt the site and the journal itself, and will not be tolerated.

XIII. You agree to put a link to The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal (http://examinedlifejournal.com) on your site, as well as a link to SolveCom (http://solvecom.net). This link should appear on a page that is accessible to your visitors. If you do not place them, then you understand that the administrator of the site may add them to page without notice to you.

XIV. You understand that remote linking (having an image pulled from your site to another) is allowed as long as it is not excessive (putting a strain on the bandwidth allotment of the site), and that the images that you use also appear on your site somewhere. Any other use would be understood as using the site for an on-line storage, and will not be allowed. If there is any reason why you cannot comply with this rule, then you should take it up with the administrator prior to placing the image or text.

XV. You understand that The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal is the rightful and sole owner of the site, and the service is bought from SolveCom. Your agreement does not represent any ownership of the site, and it does not allow you to sublet the site in any fashion, or to charge for people to have access to it.

XVI. You understand that this agreement is binding between you and The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal, and any guarentees not contained with in the agreement are subject to change, and this agreement itself may change at any time with or without notice. By signing up for a site at Thinker's Web Project, you agree that you understand all of the above, and you agree with the above. Any questions that you have about these terms should be brought to the administrator's attention prior to entering into this agreement.
