Christopher Altieri was born to Mr. John L. Altieri, jr., esq. and Maudie T. Altieri on November 14th, 1976 at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City, the first of six children to be born to Mr. & Mrs. Altieri. He attended the Fairfield College Preparatory School in Fairfield, Ct. from 1991-1995, during which time he received the bases of a liberal education in the Jesuit tradition. In the fall of 1995 he enrolled in Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, also a Jesuit institution. He entered university with the intention of following in his father's footsteps and becoming a lawyer. To that end, he studied philosophy and Classics at Fordham for four semesters. During that time, he became increasingly concerned with philosophical problems and, when Prof. Craig J.N. Paulo, his mentor philosophicus, left Fordham in the Spring of 1997, so did he. It was in the fall of 1997 that Altieri came to the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. It was during this year that Mr. Altieri first made the acquaintance of Mr. Keith M. "Mitch" Hodge. In the Spring of 1998 he took his Ph.B. (Bachelor of Philosophy) degree, magna cum laude. In the fall of that same year he inscribed in the Licentiate Program of the Faculty of Philosophy at the "Greg", and made the acquaintance of Mr. Paul Rezendes, esq. From these philosophical friendships was born the notion of a serious philosophical message board moderated by competent and interested people, of which The Examined Life On-Line Philosophy Journal is the direct descendant and sole heir. His time at the Greg was characterized by his embrace of the philosophical life. Mr. Altieri read, discussed and wrote daily, and developed quickly a reputation not only for his devotion to philosophy but also for his rhetorical skill. He was constantly and intensely involved in conversation with his professors and his fellow students. Often controversial, though rarely polemical, he was held in high esteem by his peers and the leading members of the University. In April 2001, he was chosen to represent the students of the university at the private papal audience on the 23rd of that month. In June of 2001, he gave the final written examination and consigned his Licentiate dissertation for the Ph.L. He hopes to defend his doctorate in June of 2002. During his time at Rome (where he still resides 10 months of the year), Altieri met the love of his life, Ms. Ester Rita, a Roman citizen and student of theology at the Greg. Mr. Altieri and Ms. Rita are to be married in July of 2002.
